Japan has applied the death penalty for the first time in three years: details of the case.

Takahiro Shiraishi, nicknamed the 'Twitter Killer', earned his moniker because he used this social network for his gruesome acts. He was tried for the murder and dismemberment of eight women and one man, and he was sentenced to death. Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki signed the execution order, stating that the prosecution and society were shocked by these terrible crimes, and that his motives were of an 'extremely selfish' nature.
