Bloomberg assessed how much a defeat of Ukraine would cost the USA.

A Russian victory will cost the USA more than assistance to Ukraine
According to the American Enterprise Institute's study, a defeat for Ukraine would cost the USA 808 billion dollars more than continued assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Bloomberg reports this.
Analysts argue that vulnerability on the border with Russia could lead to significant expenses for the American Pentagon. According to their forecasts, by 2029, Pentagon expenditures will increase by 800 billion dollars compared to the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine.
Analysts also stress that a successful Russian invasion of Ukraine could threaten the security of NATO countries and change the situation in Europe.
The AEI report indicates that the USA should expect such expenses to protect against potential Russian attacks outside of Ukraine. The expenditures of 808 billion dollars will alter the plan of the U.S. Department of Defense by 2029, increasing it from 4.4 trillion dollars to 5.2 trillion dollars, primarily in Asia.
The AEI report focuses on the Pentagon budget, which is critical in a world where Russia is winning in Ukraine and where the activity of other opponents is increasing while support for Ukraine is decreasing.
“We conclude that supporting Ukraine is in America’s best financial interest,” the AEI report states.
Recall that U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his assessment of Ukraine's chances in the confrontation with Vladimir Putin.
