British company BAE Systems, Italian Leonardo and Japanese Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement have created a joint venture called Edgewing to develop a sixth-generation fighter under the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). Edgewing will be responsible for the entire design and creation cycle of the new aircraft, which is expected by 2035. The partners plan to have offices in their respective countries and a headquarters in the United Kingdom. The main idea is to create a new fighter for the international GCAP program, where the Edgewing enterprise will play a key role, laying the groundwork for a new combat aircraft that aims to strengthen international cooperation and integration in the aviation sector.
