Right-wing America and Russia are jointly opposing Ukrainian independence
American and Russian rightists refuse to provide military assistance to Ukraine for their geopolitical motives, reports The Economist. They see Ukraine as a country that should obey the US and Russia.
Just as the US establishes conditions for its sphere of influence, Russia believes it has the right to control Ukraine. Intelligent people think that intervening in the affairs of other countries is mindless adventurism.
Western conservatives from the US and Europe are abandoning fundamental principles of liberalism, such as individualism and universality of human rights. They also criticize globalization and the 'woke' culture as the end of Western liberalism.
The American and European right-wing movements are leading to populism, which expresses the democratic will of the people while simultaneously reducing restrictions on the power of elected representatives.
Trump favors the destruction of the liberal state in the US, while Putin seeks to strengthen the state in Russia. These goals do not align with intellectual frameworks in the US. However, some ideas from Russian right-wing forces influence individual American figures.
There is one direction in post-liberal American right-wing thinking where supporters advocate for the union of state and religious church. Intellectual Patrick Deneen, for example, proposes 'aristo-populism' - replacing the current unsatisfactory elite with another elite with the right policies.
The so-called 'Dark Enlightenment' or 'neo-reactionary movement' openly criticizes egalitarianism and democracy. They even call for the establishment of a monarchy in the US with a dictatorial president at the head.
Trump and Russia are jointly opposing liberalism, although their views may differ. This experience has brought them closer together and may have a significant impact on future events.
