Russian airlines cancel flights due to drone attacks

Russian airlines have started to mass cancel and delay flights due to drone attacks, leading to restrictions at airports and delays for over 60 thousand passengers. The most problems were noticed at Moscow airports, where people are standing in long queues at information counters trying to find out current data or return tickets. Many people are sleeping on the floors of terminals, and some have set up tents.

The Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, stated: 'The air defense forces of the Ministry of Defense have repelled the attack of a drone heading for Moscow. Specialists from emergency services are working at the site of the fallen debris.'

At Domodedovo airport, not only passengers were stuck, but also musicians from the state Kremlin wind orchestra. Traffic jams on the runways occurred due to the closure of airspace, which caused some flights to face long waits on the plane.

Drone strikes on cities in Russia and the annexed Crimea

Drone attacks were not limited to just cities in Russia. On the night of May 7, strikes by attacking drones were also recorded in Moscow and the Moscow region. In addition, the previously occupied Crimea suffered a massive drone attack, resulting in explosions in various areas of the peninsula. Authorities have suspended maritime transport and closed the Crimean bridge.

The Russian side claims that the attacks on Crimea were carried out using Neptune-type missiles, which they say were successfully intercepted.

Analyzing the events as described, one can conclude that drone attacks have become a serious threat to aviation and populated areas. The events that took place demonstrate the need for constant improvement of security measures in the civil and defense sectors.
