Ukraine finishes the junior world championship without medals
The Ukrainian team left the junior world championship in biathlon, held in Östersund, Sweden, from February 26 to March 5, without any awards. Ukraine participated in at least one race of the competition with 16 athletes.
Oleksandra Merkusina won bronze in the mass start-60 of the older age category, which was the only achievement of the team. In addition, Ukrainians made it to the top 5 in individual races twice and finished fifth in the youth mixed relay, which was a record for the country.
This is already the third consecutive competition where the Ukrainian team does not finish with a medal. In 2022, Ukraine did not win any medals, and this year only has Merkusina's bronze. Overall, Ukraine took the 11th place in the medal standings, along with the teams of Slovenia and Switzerland, which is the worst result in two years.
France took first place in the medal standings with 15 medals, including 5 gold. Norway came second with 5 gold medals, while Germany completed the top three with 6 awards.
