38 cases of avian influenza recorded in Lviv region
On Saturday, February 1, during an inspection of the floodplains of the Western Bug River in the Sheptytskyi district of Lviv region, 38 dead swans were found. This was reported by the Sheptytskyi City Council.
The inspection was conducted between the villages of Volswin, Bendyuga, and the city of Sheptytskyi after local fishermen previously discovered two dead swans. Laboratory tests confirmed avian influenza in one of them.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Lviv region initiated an emergency meeting of the State Emergency Anti-Epidemic Commission, which took place on January 31. In order to prevent the spread of avian influenza, quarantine restrictions were introduced on a water area of 32.8 km in length, and a surveillance zone with a radius of 10 km was established.
Teams from the State Emergency Service, veterinary service, and the regional veterinary hospital worked diligently to inspect 32 hectares of the river's floodplains where 38 dead swans were found.
All birds were packed into bags and sent for examination to the Lviv Regional Laboratory.
Recall that in the Bilocherkivskyi district of Kyiv region, quarantine was also introduced due to bird flu, zoning was applied, and restrictions were established.
Furthermore, African swine fever was discovered in Poltava region. Quarantine was introduced in four villages.
