In Poltava, a patrol police inspector accepted a bribe from a conscript who was wanted. The law enforcement officer was held criminally liable.
This is stated in the verdict that the Podilskyi District Court of Poltava delivered on July 9.
Details of the case
According to court documents, on May 16, the defendant stopped a Skoda Octavia car while on patrol, whose driver violated traffic rules. After checking the violator's documents, the police officer found that he was wanted by the military enlistment office and offered to resolve the issue for 12,000 hryvnias. The driver agreed to these terms.
Court decision
During the court hearing, the accused admitted his guilt, repented, and stated that he was ready to join the Armed Forces by contract. The man was found guilty and fined 25,500 hryvnias. He will also be prohibited from holding positions related to organizational or administrative functions for a year.
During the pre-trial investigation, the patrol officer was supposed to be in custody, but he was released on bail. 20,000 hryvnias from this bail amount were transferred to the needs of the military unit, while the remaining over 40,500 hryvnias were returned to the convict.
The court ruling can still be appealed.
