Olexiy Mamaev, a former commander of a minesweeper in the Black Sea Fleet, lost his military career in 2013 due to a conflict with the leadership. However, in 2024, during the war between Russia and Ukraine, he decided to return to the fleet. After signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Mamaev participated in the conflict against Ukraine, refusing food and weapons and becoming a prisoner.

Mamaev was 'ready to go through anything to return to the bridge of the ship again.'

In captivity, Mamaev witnessed looting by Russian soldiers and felt abandoned. Ukrainian journalists visited the camp of Russian prisoners of war, where the captured officer spoke about his experiences and conditions in captivity.

Ukrainian Soldiers and Other Prisoners

According to the Security Service of Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers detained two Chinese citizens who fought on the side of the Russian army. During interrogation, they spoke about their involvement in the conflict and duties in the Russian Army.

Olexiy Mamaev became a victim of his own choice to return to service in the Russian army during the conflict. At the same Time, Ukrainian soldiers uncovered two foreigners fighting on the opposite front, providing crucial information about the situation at the front lines.

In the modern conditions of conflict, it is difficult to uphold one's principles and values when caught in the midst of military actions. This situation once again confirms how complex and dangerous military life at the front is under conditions of modern armed conflicts.
