The largest solar power plant in the Middle East has started operating in Egypt.


The Egyptian authorities opened the largest solar power plant in the Middle East and Africa - Abydos 1. This was reported by Arab News.
Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli inaugurated the Abydos 1 solar power plant in the Kom Ombo desert.
The capacity of the new power plant will be 500 megawatts, with investments in the project amounting to about 500 million dollars.
The solar power plant is located on an area of 10 thousand square meters and consists of two main transformers, which are the largest in the Middle East and Africa.
The project was implemented in 1.5 years with the participation of the Emirati company AMEA Power. The Egyptian authorities plan to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 42% by 2030.
Also, in China, the 'first and largest' floating solar power plant has been put into operation. The Chinese company CHN Energy reported the connection of the first batch of solar panels to the grid as part of the construction of a marine solar power plant with a capacity of one gigawatt in Shandong province.
