The Ukrainian authorities categorically deny the information that appeared in the Financial Times regarding a possible exchange of occupied territories for security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the authorities stated that there are no official proposals for Ukraine's accession to NATO or obtaining security guarantees similar to Article 5 of the Alliance Charter. A source noted that Ukraine has its own vision of peace, there is a Victory Plan, and everything else is simply empty words. It was emphasized that Ukraine does not trade its sovereignty and territories.
A representative of the Office of the President called the FT publication based on a delusional idea and stated that Ukraine had not received any official proposals regarding the exchange of occupied territories for security guarantees. It was also noted that FT journalists are even afraid to give far-reaching thoughts and did not speak with those who actually make decisions in Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials stress that the country's position remains unchanged: Ukraine seeks full restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to internationally recognized borders.
The Financial Times article states that some Western diplomats and Ukrainian officials are considering the possibility of providing Ukraine with significant security guarantees in exchange for Russia temporarily maintaining control over occupied territories. According to the publication, there is a "tacit agreement" that these territories will be returned diplomatically in the future.
FT also mentions that a "West German model" for Ukraine is being discussed, which provides for the possibility of certain parts of the country joining NATO, which the government controls. This idea, according to the publication, is gaining popularity among some political circles in the West.
