The President of Ukraine talks about foreign policy and security issues

On April 29, 2025, Volodymyr Zelensky made an evening address discussing key foreign policy and security issues.

The President spoke about his participation in the Three Seas Initiative summit, which unites countries from the Black Sea to the Baltic and Adriatic Seas. According to him, this format helps Ukraine get closer to the European Union.

'Our proposal is to make the format more practical. The policy in it is already sufficiently reflected, now it is necessary to add specifics - and not only concerning logistics and transport routes,' Zelensky emphasized.

The President also highlighted the importance of energy cooperation following the recent blackout in Spain and Portugal, Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and changes in the European gas market. He proposed expanding joint projects in energy and other critical infrastructure areas, including communication, pipelines, and port security, noting that Ukraine's contribution could be significant.

Regarding security issues, Zelensky reported on the preparation of a new decision by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine aimed at increasing pressure on Russian influence networks, production, and trade operations. The President noted that Ukrainian sanctions are being maximally synchronized with European ones, which has already yielded positive results, particularly regarding closed Russian production facilities that operated in Russia's defense industry.

'We are also preparing for a conversation with America regarding new sanction steps - we choose such pain points for Russia that will most provoke Moscow toward diplomacy,' the head of state noted. He emphasized that an unconditional and complete ceasefire must be the first step towards ending the war, which must be taken by Russia.

Zelensky also commented on the situation in Russia and called for an end to the war.

Concluding his address, the President mentioned a conversation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, thanking the military for their work and defense of Ukraine.
