Demographer named the greatest threat for Ukraine after the end of the war.

According to Alexander Gladun, the deputy director of the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the greatest threat for Ukraine after the end of the war is the extremely low birth rate. In order to avoid the natural decline of the population, it is necessary for 100 women to bear 210-220 children. This figure is high, and even in Europe, achieving such a level is not successful. According to Gladun, if it were possible to raise the birth rate in Ukraine to the level of 160-180 children per one hundred women, it would already be satisfactory. However, the national population will still decrease, but not as rapidly as it does now.
To make the overall decline in population slower, it is possible to increase life expectancy. And this is already a matter of self-education and active actions of the healthcare system to ensure effective assistance to people.
As for the war, much depends on the number of people who will return to Ukraine after its end. Currently, more than 6 million Ukrainians are abroad due to the conflict. If half of them return, that would be very good. Possibly, even more will return, but no one can name an exact number. Therefore, the demographic situation in Ukraine will depend on the Armed Forces and events on the frontline.
According to the CIA, Ukraine has the highest death rate and the lowest birth rate in the world. This concerns both the general demographic situation and the crisis caused by the war, in which more than a million people, including military personnel and civilians, have been killed or wounded.
Ella Libanova previously stated that to maintain Ukraine's population at the level of 30 million, it is necessary to accept 300,000 migrants annually.
According to Ella Libanova, the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the integration of residents from Crimea after the war will be easier than in Donbas.
