One of the popular countries has changed the rules for Ukrainian refugees.

The Swiss authorities have eased the procedure for obtaining S status for refugees from Ukraine, which grants the right to reside in the country and receive assistance from the government. This was reported by the SonntagsZeitung newspaper.
In 2022, almost all requests for this status were approved by local authorities, but now this percentage has decreased to 87%.
The procedure for submitting applications for S status has also become more complicated. Instead of 15-20 days, its consideration now takes 80 days. In addition, applicants need to provide evidence of their stay in Ukraine at the start of the war and the inability to obtain protection in another EU country.
Currently, there are over 67,000 Ukrainians with S status residing in Switzerland. In 2024, about 5.8 thousand people returned to Ukraine, and another 14 thousand applications are under consideration.
It was previously reported that Switzerland plans not to allow Ukrainian citizens who lived in regions not affected by the war to apply for asylum.
