Starting January 1, drivers will face significant changes: how the rules will change.

New Car Insurance Rules in Ukraine
Starting January 1, 2025, Ukrainian drivers should expect new car insurance rules related to changes in legislation. According to information from the 'Hvylya' portal, this law will come into effect soon. If you already have a compulsory insurance policy valid until the end of 2024, you do not need to re-register it right now - it will remain valid until the expiration date.
One of the main changes is the introduction of a direct compensation system in car insurance starting from 2025. Under this system, drivers will be able to receive insurance compensation directly from their insurance company, regardless of who is at fault for the accident.
From the beginning of 2025, there will be a significant change in car insurance - the introduction of a direct compensation system for damages. This means that drivers will now be able to receive insurance compensation directly from their insurance company, regardless of who is at fault for the accident.
Until now, the procedure for obtaining insurance compensation for victims was more complicated, as they had to independently identify and find the insurance company of the at-fault party and then contact it for compensation.
Significant changes also relate to car repairs. For cars younger than 5 years, new original parts from the manufacturer will be used without considering the wear of the vehicle. For older cars, the previous approach of using similar parts will remain. Drivers will be offered three options for service stations located no further than 150 kilometers from their place of residence. If they are not satisfied with these stations, the driver will receive monetary compensation to their bank account.
Another change concerns the deductible. In the new contracts for compulsory vehicle liability insurance (CVL), the use of deductibles is no longer permitted. This will simplify and make insurance more convenient for users.
The Institute of Market Research predicts a slight increase in car insurance costs. This is due to the inclusion of higher payout limits in the financial calculations of insurance companies. This means that the market will regulate pricing. We also remind that some Ukrainians will have to replace their driver's licenses with the introduction of new rules.
